August 17, 2010
Jessica Bottelberghe competed at the 2010 Speedo USA Swimming Junior Nationals in Irvine, CA on August 9-13 and she swam very well breaking two PAC records in the 200 Free (2:07.25) and 200 IM (2:22.12).
Jessica swam the 200 Fly on the first day, which was very cold and she was just off her best time. The meet was run much different from what we were used to as the swimmers had to show up to a suit inspection area 15 minutes prior to their heat, then sit under the bleachers (like 8 and unders) until they were taken to their lanes to swim.
On day two she was just the same in the
400 IM, but by day three she warmed up and was on her best time in
the 100 fly and came back one hour later in a 200 Free time trial
breaking her own team record by 1.6 seconds. On day four she
just warmed up and spent the day shopping with her Grandma (day
five was her 18th birthday). Day five was her 18th
birthday swim and she came through with Grandma, Mom, her brother
Josh in the stands and a surprise (her best friend from school came
down to support her)! She dropped from a 2:24.23 to a 2:22.12
and placed 26th or second alternate. She was so excited we
came back for finals hoping someone would no show but all came (she
did get some sunscreen from the officials). Later, she went
to Cheesecake factory and then Knott's Berry Farm on Saturday!
