Now That We Are A Swim Family,
Your swimmer has signed up to swim on a swim team. Swim suit, cap and goggles – check! Swim practice schedule – check! Now What?
Well hopefully the following will help you navigate your 2010-2011 swim season. These are the most commonly asked questions.
SWIM SEASON:
The swim season is broken into two seasons: short course and long course. Short course is in yards and long course is swam in meters. Your practice pools will stay the same, but pools used for swim-meets will have changes in the length of the pool. These two seasons will end with a championship swim-meet:
Short Course
OSI 10 and under short course championship: Feb
OSI 11-14 short course championship: Feb
OSI senior championship: Mar
Sr. Sectionals: Mar
Age Group Regionals: Mar
Long Course
OSI 10 and under long course championship: July
Senior Sectionals: July
OSI 11-14 long course championship: July
A,B,C TIMES AND HOW DOES MY SWIMMER QUALIFY FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP:
If your swimmer has not swam an event he/she will not have an official time. When he/she swims a meet then the events that they swim will have an official time. If the swimmer does not have an official time then they can swim in any meet for their age that allows “C” times. By swimming a meet they will have an official time and that time will have a classification: A time, B time, C time or better. These times are posted on the website. With these times your swimmer can qualify to swim other meets.
If you have any questions regarding what meets or events your swimmer should swim – talk to the coach. They will have the best gage of the progress of your swimmer.
VOLUNTEERING:
Each family has volunteer requirements. These can be fulfilled in a number of ways and as opportunities become available PAC tries to keep you in the loop through out the season. PAC would suggest that you meet half of your requirements in the short course season and half in the long course season. That way as we approach the end of the swim year we will still have volunteers to cover meets and other events.
This is a quick summary of the swim season. If you have any questions your coach or pool parent is a great resource.
PAC provides many opportunities to earn your volunteer hours! We regularly send out emails about current opportunities and we post volunteer openings on the website. You can also contact your pool parent or the team volunteer coordinator about volunteering.
